Save The Date: A May 4th Carnival for Kids
WACO, TX – Klaras Center for Families, which provides child and adolescent behavioral services for the Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network, prepares to host its annual Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day (CMHA) Carnival event for Mental Health Awareness Month.
Join the fun and excitement at 1105 W. Jefferson Ave, Waco, TX 76701, on Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The carnival allows families to gather information about children with mental health challenges and aims to reduce the stigma such challenges may bring to the child or their families. This event will offer food, games, and art projects. Other local vendors will be available for families.
Mental health is as essential in a child’s life as in an adult’s. A child’s overall well-being affects their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Mental Health challenges can be severe and negatively impact how a child learns, behaves, or handles distressing emotions. Mental Health America reports that Texas ranks last in access to care for children’s mental health.
“We hope that an event like this will help families in our community learn about Children’s mental health and how to access local services,” said Amanda Hernandez, YES Program Manager through HOTBHN’s Klaras Center for Families.
The Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network’s Klaras Center for Families provides comprehensive mental health services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families in a trauma-sensitive, culturally sensitive environment in its six-county service area of Bosque, Falls, Freestone, Hill, Limestone, and McLennan counties.
