HOTBHN Receives Generous Donations for Local Heroes
WACO, TX – HOTBHN is excited to announce that affiliate Veterans One Stop (VOS) recently received a $5,000 check from the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Texas (ALADT) staff: Mary Hueske, LADT State Representative and ALADT Deputy Tone’ Mahon, two pillars of the Texas veterans community. This incredible generosity will go a long way in supporting the brave men and women who have served our country.
VOS has provided support services to veterans and their families in the heart of Texas for over 12 years. Central Texas heroes and heroines have received assistance through veteran benefits, claims assistance, peer support, counseling, legal services, and career services.
The American Legion Unit 133 Auxiliary and other donors, including the American Legion Unit 121 and Clayton Homes, have always championed causes close to home, and its dedication to veterans is genuinely inspiring. Melinda Bonds, HOTBHN Associate Director of Behavioral Health Services, shares what this means for VOS.
“This is a wonderful and timely gift, given the recent increase in veterans served during Thursday lunch meals. “Bonds continued, “This is a second recent gift; the first was for coats and undergarments during the winter months for those veterans in need. American Legion Unit 121 is a regular contributor of non-perishable lunches for homeless veterans. Clayton Homes of Waco is an ongoing partner with the lunch program and recently donated 80 lunches. We know that with such good partners, our veterans will have nutritious food!”
Funding is critical for programs that assist veterans with job training, education, financial assistance for housing and food security, behavioral health services, support groups, and their families, as well as organizing events and activities that foster community and belonging. VOS staff are deeply grateful for the generosity of donors and continue to strive to make a difference in the lives of countless veterans in our community.
Veterans One Stop strives to offer accessible, caring, and responsive support services to veterans in the Central Texas area. For more information, please visit our website at www.hotbhn.org or call 254-752-3451.
